In the chilly weather, a kind-hearted woman spotted a cute face popping out of a box on the side of the road

It was a chilly December morning in Yonkers, New York, and a woman decided to take her dog for a quick stroll around the block. As they walked, something caught her eye – a mysterious cardboard box on the street. Her intuition told her to investigate, and as her dog approached the box, she heard a rustling sound from within.

Curious, the woman opened the box and was astonished to find a frightened orange cat inside. Without hesitation, she scooped him up and took him to a nearby veterinary hospital, where he received the care he needed.

The veterinary team was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the cat warmed up to them. They discovered a previous leg injury that had not properly healed, but overall, the cat was in good health. The veterinary team reached out to Little Wanderers NYC to help find the cat a loving home.

Little Wanderers named the cat Elf and took him into their care. Elf was just as affectionate with his new caretakers as he was with the veterinary team, leading them to believe that he had a family in the past. Although they will never know the circumstances that led to Elf’s abandonment, they understand that sometimes people have no other choice but to leave their pets due to financial constraints.

Little Wanderers focuses on finding permanent homes for cats like Elf and educating the public about responsible pet care. Elf was soon placed in a loving forever home with Miri and Eliezer, who fell in love with him instantly. They renamed him Sunkist, and he spends his days playing with his toys and cuddling with his new family. Elf’s memories of being abandoned in a cardboard box on a busy street are now behind him, and he will never have to sleep in a box again.
